The CENTURION® Vision System (Alcon, USA) is a cataract removal system from the world’s leading manufacturer of ophthalmic equipment. It represents the most current standard in cataract surgery, integrating multiple intelligent technologies and enabling the surgeon to perform the procedure at the highest level with minimal risk of complications.
The CENTURION® Vision System and its accessories are intended for surgical procedures on the anterior segment of the eye:
- Phacoemulsification
- Diathermy
- Anterior vitrectomy
Designed for use in small‑incision cataract extraction and intraocular lens (IOL) injection procedures. It is a fully integrated surgical system for phacoemulsification with a built‑in control unit.
Components:
- Flat‑panel, active‑matrix colour liquid crystal touchscreen display.
- Wireless foot pedal, with optional wired connectivity. Reprogrammable, individually adjustable, and customizable.
- Ability to switch between surgical steps via touchscreen, pedal switch, or remote control.
- Voice confirmation when changing surgical steps or modes.
- Generation of various audible tones to confirm system status.
- Ultrasonic handpiece: piezoelectric transducer. Ultrasonic modes: conventional (longitudinal) and torsional.
- Multiple ultrasound operating modes – fixed, pulsed, and burst, with adjustable duty cycle.
Advanced active fluidics module with rapid and smooth irrigation flow adjustment, controlled from the front panel, foot pedal, or remote control.
Electric infusion stand for traditional gravity‑fed fluid delivery, controlled from the front panel, foot pedal, or remote control.
Programmable intraocular pressure (IOP) maintenance setting.
Peristaltic pump with the ability to emulate venturi‑like hydrodynamic characteristics.
Automated IOL implantation function (via an injector handpiece connected to the system) with programmable plunger speed values and implantation control via the foot pedal.
Ability to copy parameter data to a flash card with data storage capability, including on USB memory cards.
Adjustable aspiration flow rate.
Vacuum adjustment – linear and fixed modes.
Bipolar diathermy – linear and fixed modes.
Anterior vitrectomy – with linearly adjustable and fixed cutting rates.
Programmable pressure‑based reflux controlled by the foot pedal.
